2010 MAUI FILM FESTIVAL AT WAILEA ANNOUNCES LINE-UP OF HONOREES AND SCHEDULED EVENTS

Zac Efron and Taylor Steele to Receive Honors;
Malin Akerman, Justin Chambers, Josh Radnor and More Scheduled to Attend

Wailea, HI (June 3, 2010) – Entering its much anticipated second decade of cinema-under-the-stars, the 11th Annual Maui Film Festival announced its line up of honorees, screenings and special events taking place June 16-20, 2010 at the Wailea Resort and the state-of-the-art Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. The schedule is packed with uplifting independent films, celebrity appearances and beautiful events highlighting the culture, food, and beauty of Maui, including award ceremonies honoring Zac Efron and Taylor Steele; appearances by Malin Akerman, Justin Chambers and Josh Radnor; more than 40 film screenings; and more events offering a relaxing and enjoyable opportunity for festival goers to appreciate cinema in an unparalleled atmosphere.  Tickets for the festival are on-sale now at www.mauifilmfestival.com.

Zac Efron Honored with the Shining Star Award
Wednesday, June 16th at 8:00 PM
Zac Efron will be presented with the Shining Star Award, which honors a film artist, still in the ascendance of their career—with many magnetic performances both behind and ahead of them—whose very presence on screen guarantees as much light as heat. Past recipients include Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel.  Following the presentation will be the Opening Night Celestial Cinema Premiere of Bran Nue Dae, an Australian musical comedy, written and directed by Rachel Perkins and starring Geoffrey Rush.

Taylor Steele Honored with the Beacon Award
Thursday, June 17th at 8:00 PM
Taylor Steele will be presented with the Beacon Award for sharing the infinite possibilities of the commitment to live a life beyond limits, outside of fear, inside of courage and inspired by wonder and to bring the inspiration that results to millions of people around the world through their envelope-pushing extreme sports documentaries. Past recipients include Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama.  Following the presentation will be a screening of Steele’s latest film, Castles in the Sky.

Justin Chambers Presents The Happiest Man Alive
Friday, June 18th at 8:00 PM
Actor Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy) will present the world premiere of The Happiest Man Alive.  Starring Chambers, this dark comedy short film is written/directed by newcomer Andrew M. Goodman, who will also be in attendance.

Norman Screening with Dan Byrd
Friday, June 18th at 10:00 PM
Dan Byrd (Cougar Town) stars as the title character, Norman, in a new dramedy directed by Jonathan Segal, who will also be in attendance.  This film also stars Emily Van Camp, Adam Goldberg and Richard Jenkins.

Happythankyoumoreplease Screening with Josh Radnor and Malin Akerman
Saturday June 19th at 8:00 PM
Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), who stars in Happythankyoumoreplease, makes his writing and directorial debut with his film.  This comedy, based in New York, also stars Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Zoe Kazan, Tony Hale and Kate Mara.

Closing Night Screening of Boy with Taika Waititi
Sunday June 20th at 8:00 PM
Taika Waititi (Eagle vs Shark) is the writer, director and star of Boy, a wacky, endearing comedy based in New Zealand.  The film also stars Te Aho Aho Eketone-Whitu and Ei Kura Albert.

Opening Twilight Reception at Capische?

Starry Night MoondDance
WHEN: June 16, 2010 at 10:00 PM
WHERE: Tommy Bahama Tropical Cafe at Shops at Wailea
Known as the festival’s hottest dance party, attendees will enjoy appetizers from the kitchen of Tommy Bahama’s Topical Café, complemented by libations courtesy of Tommy Bahama Rum and Stella Artois and hydrated by Hawaiian Springs Water.

Taste of Chocolate
WHEN: June 18, 2010 at 10:00 PM
WHERE: Four Seasons Maui
Maui Film Festival’s over-the-top event for chocolate lovers.  Attendees will enjoy many decadent chocolate treats including liquid nitrogen chocolate sorbet, baked chocolate mousse, chocolate olive panini and white chocolate Grand Marnier cheesecake, while they discover the sweet side of the island.

Taste of Wailea Presented by the Culinary Artists of Wailea

The crown jewel event of Maui Film Festival’s culinary arts celebrations, Taste of Wailea will be presented by Wailea Resort's most celebrated chefs and restaurants, complimented by an engagingly robust and delicate assortment of fine wines, refreshing Stella Artois on draft, exotic Maui-tinis from Ocean Vodka, and Hawaiian Springs Water.
